Lifecycle CO2 Reductions
According to the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Information Association, standard petroleum diesel fuel releases, on average, 22.384 pounds of CO2 per gallon burned. According to a joint study sponsored by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and of Energy, B99 biodiesel reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by 77.67%. This equates to a reduction of 17.38 pounds of CO2 per gallon of B99. For a 20% biodiesel blend (B20), the reduction is 3.51 per gallon.

Gallons of Imported Oil Reduced
Over 60% of petroleum consumed in U.S. comes from foreign sources. The United States uses more than 320 billion gallons of oil per year, of which nearly 200 billion gallons are imported. For every drop of renewable fuel in your tank, you reduce imported oil by 62.5%.
Note: America?s 20-million-barrel-a-day oil habit costs our economy $1.4 billion a day, and $500 billion in 2006 alone. Every hour, we spend $41 million on foreign oil.
Barrels of Petroleum Displaced
This is a gallon-to-gallon comparison of the petroleum displaced by using B99 biodiesel or B20 biodiesel blends. One barrel of oil equals 42 gallons of automotive fuel. One gallon of B99 biodiesel saves approximately 0.023 barrels of petroleum, and a gallon B20 blend saves 0.0048 barrels.
NOTE: All CleanDrive calculations are estimates. Actual emissions may vary by biodiesel production characteristics, feedstock source, and vehicle type and other conditions.
Equivalent Impact of Mature Trees
A healthy tree stores on average 13 pounds of carbon annually.
According to the US Energy Information Association, diesel releases 22.384 pounds of CO2 per gallon burned. Based on a joint study sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Energy, B99 biodiesel reduces lifecycle CO2 emissions by 77.67%. For B99 biodiesel this equates to a reduction of 17.38 pounds per gallon. For a B20 biodiesel blend the reduction is 3.51 per gallon.
The consumption of one gallon of B99 (instead of petroleum diesel) reduces the emission of CO2 by roughly the same amount as is sequestered by 1.34 mature trees over a one year period, while burning a gallon of B20.
